Fremont California City Profile
Geography and Climate
With an estimated 2004 population of 209,100 people, Fremont is the
second largest city in Alameda County.
Its land mass of 92 square miles make it California's fifth largest city in area. Fremont is located on the southeast side of San Francisco Bay
at the foot of Mission Peak,
which boasts the 2,999 Mission Peak regional park.
As in most of California, most of the rainfall takes place in Winter months. Temperatures
are mild year round, averaging about 40-60 degrees in Winter and 50-70 degrees in warmer months,
as shown by this climate summary
Education
Public schools in the Fremont Unified School District (see district website or Greatschools.net
are very highly rated. My research in 2005 turned up three high schools with an API rank of 9 (American High School.,
Washington High School, and Irvington High School), and one 10 (Mission San Jose). Given the 28 elementary schools
returned by GreatSchool's "Compare Schools" tool for Fremont, the average API score was 8.14, and the median
score was 8.
Colleges / Junior Colleges include a campus of Devry University,
and Ohlone College.
History
A number of online resources have been compiled for Fremont's history. They include
the Fremont History
page of the Fremont's Museum of Local History.
Anne Toxey has compiled a useful Fremont history time line.
